Maria's Story
I left Hillside high school in my sophomore year and did my junior year at Union Catholic. I graduated from Elizabeth high school where I met my wonderful husband. After graduation I went to Kean College and dual majored in Visual Communications and Art Education.
Right after College I worked for a few years in Edison as an account rep. for Pagenet (the beeper co.) During that time I married my husband. We did a bit of traveling, Jamaica, Mexico, Cyprus etc...And I went to work for Chelsea GCA as an acct. they built and managed high-end retail outlets. I worked there for about 7 yrs. I had my son, then my daughter during this period. I was later hired as a project acct. for a NY based company...Expand for more
that was doing a huge job at Newark Airport for Continental. I made great friends there and had some amazing experiences. We went to every restaurant in Newark. Once the job came to a close, they wanted me to go and do a project over at JFK, the commute would kill me! I left and went to Klye Conti Construction and worked as acct./human resources and trained for OASHA. I was there for about 2 years when I decided this was not for me and followed my dream, teaching. I took me about two years to land a fulltime position as an art teacher.
Presently, I am going for my masters in Special
Education, and I could not be happier. I love having my summers off and spending it on the beach w/ my kids!
